Open file format for Notes + backups
by giorgos @ 2019-09-11 04:27:27

Can you consider using open file formats (e.g. svg) in the Notes app? E.g. this app uses html for the notebook and svg files for individual pages:

Right now it is possible to automate backups of .note files, but that is not useful without a functioning Mobi. E.g. in case the device is stolen/broken/etc:

If the file format was open, the notes would be readable from any device (desktop, smartphone etc) as is.

Alternatively, you can release the Notes apk for users to install it on e.g. smartphones. Or introduce regular, automated conversion to pdf and then backup to dropbox.

This is not to say you are not doing a great job - the device is awesome and we all appreciate your hard work. Yet as someone mentioned on Github, if the source code was available we could help too. It's only in our interest after all:)

So thanks again, and don't hesitate to shout if you need our help!

Oh man! SVG open format for .note would be AMAZING! Really no reason not to support it....why create a proprietary format that's stuck to the device? I mean, I can easily vectorize the PDF as a SVG, but that's extra steps that are, frankly, unnecessary and SVG is already an open format. Totally agree with this!

I don't know if it helps, but I was reviewing legal terms, and there is a mobiscribe account on Github where all the open source code lives.
